Performance of Students with Disabilities by Race/Ethnicity

Looking inside the 2022 NAEP results for students with disabilities (students with IEPs) by race/ethnicity provides a gloomy picture. However, the achievement gaps between race/ethnic groups among students with disabilities are not substantially different from the overall achievement gaps between race/ethnic groups. In fact, the gaps between race/ethnic groups among students with disabilities scoring at or above basic are the same (math, grade 4) or less (math, grade 4, reading grades 4 and 8) than all students as shown in the charts below.

Below are nationwide results on 2022 NAEP assessments in math and reading for students with disabilities (students with IEPs) by race/ethnicity. Results for each state can be generated using the NAEP Data Explorer.
