Ethics
and Excellence
in Advocacy Project
The
Advocacy Institute is pleased to announce
an opportunity for special education advocates
nationwide to participate in the development of
voluntary standards of ethical and excellent practice.
The
special education advocacy community of practice
is growing in size! An important next step in assisting
special education advocates to grow in excellence
as well is the development and adoption of a consensus
statement that will outline the ethical standards
advocates voluntarily support and adopt to guide
their practice. (Learn more
about communities of practice and field-building.)
The Ethics
and Excellence in Advocacy Project
has several components:
- Results
of an advocate survey that several advocates
are working on right now -- stay tuned
for more information.
- A
draft standards of practice document.
- Several
different ideas about providing guidance
and support to special education advocates
when they are struggling with ethics/standards
issues.
In addition, The
Advocacy Institute will be initiating
a listserv devoted to building excellence and ethics
into special education advocacy. We invite all
practicing advocates and interested organizational
representatives to become actively involved. We
need everyone's voice and energy.
